Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation
in Atlantic County

Specialized SCI recovery programs, closer to home.

If you’re living with a spinal cord injury, “generic therapy” is not enough. You need a plan built around neurological recovery, function, and the realities of your day-to-day life.

Why SCI Care Is Hard to Find

Finding a true SCI specialist often means a long commute to Cherry Hill or Philadelphia. Many local outpatient clinics say they treat “everything,” but SCI recovery requires specialized neurological expertise and the right equipment to support real functional progress.

The FAM Difference: Expertise + Equipment

At FAM Rehabilitation, spinal cord injury recovery is not a side service. It is a primary focus. Care is directed by a Board Certified Neurological Clinical Specialist (NCS) and built around one-on-one sessions that prioritize safety, confidence, and measurable gains.

We combine high-intensity gait training with advanced weight-bearing tools to support neuroplasticity, the nervous system’s ability to adapt and improve with the right practice.

What We Do in SCI Rehab

  • Body-Weight Support Treadmill Training (SoloStep)
Progress often starts before full weight-bearing is possible. SoloStepallows you to practice walking mechanics safely and consistently, without the fear of falling, while we work on posture, step quality, and endurance.

  • Standing Frames and Weight Bearing
Regular standing supports bone density, circulation, and organ function. We use standing frames to build consistent weight-bearing time during sessions, even if you are not yet independently mobile.

  • Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)
FES can activate weak or under-recruited muscles to support functional movement, reduce spasticity, and improve voluntary control during task-based training.

  • Wheelchair Seating and Positioning
A wheelchair should fit your body and your life. Proper seating can reduce pressure injury risk and protect shoulders. We provide comprehensive seating and positioning assessments to improve comfort, safety, and mobility.

Levels of Injury We Treat

We work with both complete and incomplete injuries across all levels:

  • Cervical (Tetraplegia/Quadriplegia): Respiratory health, head and neck control, and maximizing upper extremity function.

  • Thoracic and Lumbar (Paraplegia): Trunk stability, transfers, bed mobility, and gait training.

FAQs

Do I need a referral?

It depends on your insurance plan. Call and we’ll tell you what you need before your first visit.

How soon will I notice progress?

Some changes show up first in daily function, comfort, and confidence. Your timeline depends on injury level, completeness, overall health, and consistency of therapy.

Will you help me with walking,
even if I’m not ready to fully weight-bear?

Yes. That’s where body-weight support and task-based training can be useful. We’ll evaluate what’s safe and appropriate, then build a plan around it.

Do you provide wheelchair and seating support?

Yes. We assess fit, posture, pressure risk, and function so your chair supports mobility and daily life.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Any recent medical notes, a list of medications, and any devices you use (brace, cane, walker, wheelchair). If there’s a specific daily task you want to improve, tell us. We’ll build around it.
